On Tuesday 6th December, our Patron of Reading, Philip Womack visited us for the first time.
The day started with a talk with all of Year 7 where Philip talked about his love of reading and why he decided to become a Patron of Reading. He then told us about what inspired his latest book, Double Axe which is his take on Theseus and the Minotaur.
Later on in the day Philip ran creative writing workshops for Years 7 and 8. Year 7 created their own hybrid monsters and we had weird and wonderful creatures such as the penguin-shark and eagle-shark being written about. Year 8 were challenged with writing a story about how things are created in the natural world and we discovered that rainbows were apparently created by vomiting kittens. There was some amazing work created in both sessions.
Throughout the day Philip signed copies of his books for the students and answered their questions.
It was a fantastic visit and we are looking forward to Philip’s next visit on World Book Day.
