Debate Mate Launch8th November 2017
On Tuesday 31st October 2017, Mr Soane and I took thirty of our students, who are members of our new Debate Mate Club, to the Debate Mate Launch at the Emmanuel Centre in Westminster. Our students met contemporaries from other schools with whom they will be competing in forthcoming debating competitions. They were audience to a debate delivered by previous Debate Mate champions and had the opportunity to voice their opinions when contributions were requested from the floor.
Our students made excellent contributions to the debate and they were a credit to the school. The motion was "The voting age should be lowered to the age of sixteen." Those who argued for the motion eventually won by a close margin.
The John Roan Debate Mate Club will meet for the first time with their university debating tutors after school on Thursday 9th November in the Main Hall at Maze Hill.
Let's hope John Roan wins one of the national debating trophies in 2018.
With best wishes
