Year 10 Information Evening

21st January 2019

Dear Parent / Carer,

Happy New Year to you from all at the John Roan. 2019 will be a critical year for Year 10 pupils and will likely make the difference in terms of outcomes at the end of Year 11 in 2020. As you will know, a Parents’ Evening has been scheduled for later in the academic year to support preparations for the End of Year Exams, but in the meantime, I would like to invite you and your child to an Information Evening on Tuesday 29th January.

The Evening will give you an opportunity to hear from and speak to senior teachers regarding the position of Key Stage 4 within your child’s education, and in particular, how it can determine access to different pathways at Post16 and beyond. We will also be able to share strategies for home and school that will support your child to achieve the very best possible outcomes. Finally, there will be an opportunity to meet and ask questions to the leadership of the Maths, English and Science departments. Refreshments will be throughout. The outline for the evening will be as follows;

5.45pm: Gather in the Foyer at the Westcombe Park site

6:00pm: Welcome from Mr Thomas and Ms Smith

6.10pm: Destinations (Mr Rogers)

6.15pm: Post16 Options and The John Roan Sixth Form (Mr Williams)

6:20pm: Supporting achievement in Key Stage 4 (Mr Thomas)

6:25pm: Visits to the Maths, English and Science departments

7:00pm: End of event

This evening is specifically targeted at Year 10s and we encourage you to attend the event with your child. I look forward to seeing you all on the 29th January. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please contact the PA to the Senior Leadership Team, Pat Taylor, via email;

Kind regards,

Mr Rogers (Assistant Headteacher, Key Stage 4)
