Patron of Reading Visit - Philip Womack

16th October 2018

On Monday 15th October, we had a visit from our Patron of Reading, Philip Womack. The day started with a talk with all of Year 7 where Philip talked about his love of reading and how he developed as a writer ranging from early tales of vampire squirrels up to his most recently published book, The Double Axe.

Later, Philip ran creative writing workshops for Year 7. The students were challenged to think about the sounds in stories. Students had bouncing kangaroos, creaking doors and stamping feet in their creations. However, probably one of the most original stories featured the ghost of John Roan himself! In the second workshop students were challenged to write a story inspired by the title The first time I... We had stories about washing the dishes, meeting long-lost cousins and cleaning out fish tanks. The students wrote some amazing stories in both workshops.

It was a fantastic day and we’re looking forward to Philip’s next visit later in the year.
