Entry Requirements

All students following our Level 3 programme need to have at least 5A*-C grades at GCSE including Maths and English. In addition, most courses have specific GCSE entry requirements which are stated in the course description for each subject.

The following table represents the subject requirements for entry to particular Post 16 courses this year:

(All must have at least 5 grade A* – C at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4)
Art: Fine Art Level 2 qualification in Art and Design Students who have not previously studied this subject and want to choose as an option, will have a further interview and will need to produce a portfolio.
Art: Photography Grade C or higher in GCSE Art/Design and Technology, or grade Merit or higher in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design.Students who have not previously studied this subject and want to choose as an option, will have a further interview and will need to produce a portfolio.
Art: Textiles (BTEC) Grade C or higher in GCSE Art/Design and Technology, or grade Merit or higher in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design Students, who have not previously studied this subject and want to choose as an option, will have a further interview and will need to produce a portfolio.
Biology Grade 5 or higher in GCSE Maths. Grade B or higher in the biology modules in core and additional science.
Business Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English Language and Grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths.
Chemistry Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Maths. Grade B or higher in the chemistry modules in core and additional science.
Computer Science Grade 5 or higher in GCSE Mathematics and grade 4 or higher in GCSE English Language.
Creative and Digital Media (BTEC) 5 Grade A* – C at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4.
Economics Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Maths and English.
English Literature Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English Language and English Literature.
Enterprise & Entrepreneurship (BTEC) 5 Grade A* – C at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4.
Geography Grade B or higher in GCSE Geography and/or grade 5 or higher in GCSE English.
Government and Politics Grade B or higher in GCSE History and/or grade 5 or higher in GCSE English.
Health and Social Care (BTEC) Grade Merit or higher in Level 2 Health and Social Care or 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4.
History Grade B or higher in GCSE History and/or grade 5 or higher in GCSE English.
IT (BTEC) 5 Grade A* – C at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4.
Mathematics An aptitude/entrance test; students that attain a minimum Grade 6 (including a raw UMS mark of 65% or higher) in GCSE Maths will be eligible to sit the aptitude/entrance test.
Music Grade B or higher in GCSE Music or grade Five (Merit or Distinction) in any instrument or Theory from ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall Music.
Physics Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Maths and Grade 6 or higher in the physic modules in core and additional science.
Psychology Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English.
Science (BTEC) Grade C or higher in GCSE Science, Additional Science or in Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Alternatively a grade Merit or higher in Level 2 BTEC Science.
Sociology 5 Grade A* – C at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4.
Spanish Grade B or higher in GCSE Spanish.
Sport (BTEC) Grade C or higher in GCSE PE or at least 5 Grade A* – C at GCSE including English and Maths grade 4.
